We all have one thing in common and that is the need to feel loved. Love literally makes the
world go round. The strongest of all our emotions is love and its opposite, fear is equally
strong. While love uplifts humanity, fear restricts us and is a powerful source of negativity.
Unfortunately, right from our childhood we are raised and controlled with fear by our
parents and teachers who do so without realizing the life-long damage that they cause us.
We are told not to talk to strangers. This may be good to protect us as children but how can
the same rule be true when we are adults? We are conditioned to believe that some people
are bad and some are good (based on color, race, caste or even religion). The bad thing
about fear is it sells easily.
Let’s take the Covid-19 pandemic scenario of today. The news channels are continuously
televising primarily about the dark side of the virus. They have talk shows on the deaths
caused by the virus, financial instability to countries and their citizens, job losses and all
such fearful things. Watching the news all through the day has created a fear psychosis in
millions who fail to see the recoveries of the sick, the healing of the planet due to lower
levels of pollution, the quality time spent among family during the lockdowns and so on.
It is of utmost importance that we learn to use our intelligence and rise above fear and
choose love. Fear disconnects and isolates us, whereas love binds us all together for the
greater good of life. Where ever you have a choice of being right or kind chose kindness
over being right.

The following tips will help you love more and overcome fear:
1) Keep an open mind and heart: Stay open to new ideas and feelings. Do not block
yourself with limiting beliefs from your childhood. Do not be quick to judge others,
be open to begin a conversation with people who are different from you. Remember
it was only a few years ago that people killed those who dared say that the earth was
round.
2) Serve, serve and serve more: Service brings you instant happiness. Service is a
product of love. Look out for people who will need your help. Go out that extra mile
and bring happiness to everyone you meet.
3) Change your limiting beliefs: Take a piece of paper and write down your beliefs on
family, friends, crime, terrorism, politics, corruption and so on. If you believe till now
that the whole world is engulfed in negativity, then look out for the positives among
these negatives. Just like a magnet has a north and a south pole, negativity has to be
balanced by positivity. You must just look out for it. Look around you and you will
find goodness; not everyone is a criminal, not every official is corrupt and not every
politician is a liar. Look out for goodness and you will find it.
4) Keep a journal: At the end of each day record the highlights of your day. Look out for
the things that helped you love more. Start a gratitude journal it will help you find
love. Each day make it a point to be grateful for 3 things. They need not be big or
grand things. Experiences like being grateful for the lovely trees that surround you
will often be better than being grateful for some grandiose event. This practice will
instantly help you love your life and the things in it.
5) Love yourself: The easiest way to love others is by loving yourself first. Do however
note that when I say love yourself first I don’t mean that you should become either
self-centered or selfish! You can’t give from an empty cup. The great master that
traversed Israel centuries ago said ‘Love your neighbor as you would love yourself.
You must start by loving yourself. Appreciate yourself, speak positively about
yourself. Make yourself your number one priority. If you love yourself you will be
able to radiate love.
