5 Ways to create a sense of calm amidst chaos

Chaos in life is inevitable, however how we handle it is completely up to us. Let’s observe the world today. A world that seemed fine a few months back is now battling one of the deadliest pandemics of all time. Covid-19 has changed lives. Almost all of us are affected in some way or the other; some more than others. Sicknesses, loss of loved ones, loss of jobs, hunger, stress, anxiety have been the outcomes of the pandemic.
How do we face this situation? Can we really manage to create a sense of calm in this chaos?
There are ways that hold good in overcoming times of chaos and I’d like to point out a few today.
1) Breathe: Breathing helps in relaxation. Deep breaths immediately trigger a sense of calmness and peace. Every time you are faced with a tough situation, just go somewhere quiet, close your eyes and breathe deeply. This practice helps you to be aware of your thoughts and take control of them. Once you are able to take control of your thoughts; you will want to eliminate the ones that are not pleasant. This is the first step to achieving peace.
What happens during deep abdominal breathing is that the oxygen breathed in stimulates the body's parasympathetic nervous system. This, in turn, produces a feeling of calmness and body connectedness that diverts attention from stressful, anxious thoughts and quiets what's going on in the mind. Deep breathing is important for the balance chemical reactions to take place in our bodies.
2) Visualization: However bad the situation may seem, visualise it. Paint a picture of the situation in your head. Organise all your thoughts around the situation. Now imagine the outcome that you desire. Picture that winning moment where you overcome the negative situation. This will help you handle the situation better and not get overwhelmed by it.
3) Faith: Yes, it is faith that cures us. It is faith that can move mountains. However tough the situation may seem, never give up before you try and work things out. Have faith that things will work out in your favour and move ahead in achieving your goals. Faith works wonders in dealing with chaos. Faith in any power called by any name helps us hang on while we go through dark allies and nerve wracking twists in our life.
4) Take a break and relax: We overwork and often can be very harsh on ourselves. It is very important to relax and unwind amidst chaos. Do things that make you de-stress. It could be reading a book, playing a musical instrument, listening to music, an early morning walk and so on. You could also practice yoga and meditation. 5) Gratitude and compassion towards everything: Learn to appreciate life. Self-love, gratitude and appreciation are all mind sets of winners. Never take your life or that of a fellow human for granted. Learn to love and serve each other compassionately. The moment we come out of our pessimism towards life and begin loving and being grateful for everything that life has on offer; we become peaceful even in a chaotic world.
