How to stay positive during a pandemic

The Covid-19 pandemic has thrown the entire world into chaos. What is worse is the number of lives lost to the virus. If we are alive today we need to be really grateful. Such a difficult situation can be very challenging and even traumatic to many. It is bound to cause feelings of deep seated anxiety and even depression. Many people have been seeking my advice on how to handle the Covid challenge and it is because of that that I decided to put down a few thoughts on ways to stay positive during the pandemic.

1) Do not let paranoia get the better of you: While being careful and alert don’t get too perturbed even if you develop any mild symptoms of Covid. It could often just be psychological. Don’t jump to the conclusion that you have been infected at worst it could just be a common cold that will pass off with time. If required talk to your doctor and see if you need to get tested.

2) Eat healthy and exercise: Your body is faced with a potentially challenging Covid attact and your job is to help it cope with the challenge. The best thing you can do to equip and empower it so it doesn’t get infected. The best way to do this is to support it build a strong immunity. This can be done if you eat healthy foods and indulge in regular exercise. Eat foods rich in Vitamin C, iron, vitamin A,D etc. Exercise every day, take a walk in nature, yoga or do body weight training.

3) Social distancing is not the same as emotional distancing: We have all been forced to practice social distancing to stay protected and to protect others as well. This is very good. However do not grow distant from those you love. We all need to keep in touch to survive emotionally. Don’t become a recluse as that also adds to the stress of your body and can adversely affect your immunity! Stay in touch with online tools like Zoom, Skype, Whatsapp and so on.

4) Schedule some me time: Make sure to give yourself the time that you need. If you like reading or playing a musical instrument make sure that you do that. Making time for yourself is very essential.

5) Prevent information overload: We need to be updated with what is happening around the world, however do not over indulge in the news and watch Covid updates or negative news several times a day. By seeing negative news you will cultivate feelings of fear and distress that is likely to make you dipressed which again is not good for your immunity!

6) Get support: If you need any special assistance find a friend or a mental health professional or a Life Coach like me. I have coached over 200 clients and together we have manged to get lives back on track. I also have created several programs based on love and peace, some of them are even FREE. Try them out at www.mariosequeira.org

In the meantime remember that this too will pass so be strong and stay happy.
