These are challenging days that can often be quite stressful. Don’t punish yourself
unnecessarily. In the first place you really aren’t in control of the present situation and
secondly when you deprecate yourself it takes a huge toll on your self-esteem and in turn
on your overall well-being. Be kind to yourself, no matter when things are going right and
even when they aren’t going the way you want them to. This way you will remain happier
and even more effective and motivated.
1. Concentrate on stuff that is kind and constructive: When you feel challenged and
weak shift your focus away from the present situation. A sure way of falling prey to
a lot of negativity is by being on social media extensively. Avoid negativity posted on
social media. Read personal development blogs and watch videos that empower and
embolden you. Spend time in nature and heal yourself as you relax. Don’t allow
yourself you get bogged down with destructive vices like excessive drinking or
smoking.
2. Give yourself a break: Do not overwork yourself. Hard work is essential but do not
get so busy that you complete stress yourself out. Take breaks. It is difficult to take
holidays especially now a days but breaks you surely can. Spend time with your loved
ones. If possible go on a fishing trip or on a trek. These things will distract your mind
and keep you relaxed.
3. Practice forgiveness: As I have so often said forgiving does more good to you than
anyone else. Let go of the grudge against a person who ill-treats you. It’s not worth
clinging on to the double edged sword; you just end up cutting yourself. Don’t forget
to forgive yourself. Clear your heart of hate and free it up so that it can be filled with
love and compassion. Doing this cultivates the virtue of altruism.
4. Express Gratitude: It is very important to be grateful. Be grateful for all the things
that happen to you. Be grateful to yourself for all that you accomplish. Be grateful
for things that didn’t go your way. They are probably preventing you from greater
evil. Treat yourself well. Every time you complete a tough task you could treat
yourself to a chocolate or an ice-cream or go catch a movie. Be kind to yourself and
keep yourself happy.
5. Be mindful: Do everything mindfully. In this way you avoid the things that hurt. Be
aware of what is happening around you. Protect yourself from judgemental and
negative people. Avoid all those who do not wish well for you. When you encounter
negativity just relax, take deep breaths and move on with your life. Be negativity-
proof and do not dirty yourself with it.
