Are you financially free? Can you say that you have achieved financial freedom? We all want
to achieve financial freedom but we don’t bother to learn how to go about it! Isn’t it
awesome to feel financially secure and have enough cash to spend, without having to worry
about settling bills etc.? Financial freedom allows you to enjoy something that’s more
valuable than money and that is freedom. But you just can’t get true financial freedom
unless you first develop an appropriate way of thinking.
1) Adopt a growth mindset: Know that in many cases the only difference between the
haves and the have nots is in their thinking. One believes he or she can have it all
while the other is confident that abundance is only for the weak and not for the
hardworking! Always be ambitious and ready to strive for more. Look out for various
ways to create multiple sources of income. Money flows from multiple channels. Do
not focus on just one source of revenue.
2) Think of money as your birth right: Think of money as if it is your birth right to have
it. Then just like food and water go out and get it. Thinking from scarcity is what will
never allow you financial freedom. You have to think from abundance and also from
the perspective that it is your right to be rich. Then you start figuring out ways to get
rich. Do not view money negatively. You must have heard of phrases like “Money is
the root cause of all evil” or “The rich can’t enter heaven”. All these are not true and
spoil our relationship with money. Think of all the good you could do if you had
enough money to build schools, hospitals etc to help those who don’t have enough?
Money is good and I have no doubt about it!
3) Write down your goals: I would rather you write down positive goals rather than the
not so positive ones like wanting to clear out your loans. But repayment of loans is
also important so focus on generating a huge amount of income while setting aside a
portion to automatically clear your loans in instalments. Why is it that you need
more money? To buy that new car, to get a new house? Whatever the goal may be,
just write it down. By doing this you will be able to track your progress and enjoy the
excitement along the way. Stay positive and believe in achieving your goals.
4) Where possible pay off your debts: Along your way to financial freedom you could
pay off your debts. Debts are not always bad. They are bad only when it is difficult to
pay back so plan to increase your income in such a way that repayment of loans
doesn’t become an issue. Of course there is nothing like being debt free.
5) Create a ‘pay yourself first’ mentality: This is a highly underrated but very important
step. It means that before spending any of your earnings make sure to pay yourself
an adequate amount of money. By adopting this technique, you will always have
enough money in your savings account no matter how much you spend. Make sure
to set aside a fixed amount of your earnings to go as savings.
