Life in many ways is like the waves. Sometime up and sometimes down. It is never a straight
line. It is good that life is this way because even if today is a bad day one can take it for
granted that bad days cant last forever and just like the wave they have to be followed by
good days! After a series of setbacks, bad luck and failures, one may not feel okay with life
at all. We’ve all had our share of bad days. What can we do when things like this happen to
us?
1) Remember it is okay to get frustrated but you can’t let your frustrations get the
better of you: Frustration is a natural emotion; you must learn to handle it. Focus on
your breathing, every time you get frustrated breathe deep and watch your breath it
will bring you back to the present moment. Focus on the material things around you
for 2 mins. The television, the food on the table, the snow outside and so on.
2) Be grateful for the simplest of things: Remind yourself, of 3 simple things that you
can be grateful for. Make a note of all the answers that come to your mind. Eg: A
roof on my head, 3 meals a day, the internet, your job and so on. Practice this habit
every single day.
3) Frustration is temporary: Remember just like the seasons or the tide of the ocean
frustration is also non-permanent. Tomorrow is always a new day and with it always
comes with new beginnings.
4) Check on the good things in life: Focus on what good is going on in your life. Big or
small, just note the good. Look back at all that is working positively in your life. That
itself will make your frustrations feel trivial.
5) Let it out: Do not bottle up your frustrations. You could begin getting nightmares of
the same and it could even eat you up from within. Instead find a friend, a
confidante or a life coach to help you through this. I too will be happy to help you if
you want me to. Checkout coaching
6) Work it out: Get moving. Go for a workout : bodyweight or weight training. Take a
walk, do yoga or swim a bit. Do anything that gets your heart pumping. Exercise
helps dissolve stress.
7) What did I learn from this? : Life is a great teacher; there is something we must
learn from your frustrations and inconveniences. There is a lesson to be learnt from
everything. Look out for mistakes that brought you to this situation and avoid them
in the future.
